What Are The Evidences That The Qur’an Was Revealed?

The biggest proof that the Qur’an is a divine book is its content. Although there are messages related to many different disciplines such as history, physics, astronomy, biology, psychology and sociology, these messages (verses) neither contradict each other nor the facts discovered in hundreds of years.

Even though it was not known by humanity in its own time, a lot of information mentioned by the Qur’an was better understood over time, however, no verse was refuted and invalidated by new scientific findings.

Although there are many examples in the Qur’an on this subject, to mention few of them:

• Developmental stages of human in mother’s womb
• He said, “And indeed, We created humankind¹from an extract of clay, Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb]. then We developed the drop into a clinging clot of blood, then developed the clot into a lump of flesh, then developed the lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it into being as a new creation.¹ So Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creator”[1]

• The maturation stages of human beings in the mother’s womb described in the above verses of the Qur’an in the 600s were discovered in the 19th century by embryology scientists based on the research made on frog eggs in 1855, and the results much what was mentioned in the verses without violating the steps.
• Layers of the atmosphere
• “He is the One Who created everything in the earth for you. Then He turned towards the heaven, forming it into seven heavens. And He has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.”[2]
• In the 600s, when humanity was introduced to the messages of the Qur’an, people were not even able to think about a protective structure surrounding the world and that its structure is arranged in layers. The layered structure of the atmosphere was discovered by scientists about 1300 years after the Qur’an.

• The fertilizing feature of the wind
• “And We have sent the fertilizing winds¹and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.”[3]
• There are male and female pairs in the flowers of all plants, and fruits are formed when the male grafts the female. This act of grafting takes place to the winds. The “fertilizing” feature of the winds was discovered approximately 13 centuries after this information given by the Qur’an.
• Lives of bees
• “And your Lord inspired to the bee, “Take for yourself among the mountains, houses [i.e., hives], and among the trees and [in] that which they construct. and feed from ˹the flower of˺ any fruit ˹you please˺ and follow the ways your Lord has made easy for you.” From their bellies comes forth liquid of varying colours, in which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.”[4]
• Qualitative research on the life of honeybees operating with an incredible system began in the second half of the 18th century. It was 12 centuries past after the revelation of the Honeybee (An-Nahl) Sura, in which the Qur’an draws attention to these and that humanity was able to learn about details such as the functioning of the hive of honeybees, the fact that bees have more than one abdomen, and the benefit of honey for human’s health.

In addition, the news that the Qur’an gives about the future during its revelation period has come true. Here are a few examples among the many news in the Qur’an on this subject:

• The Byzantines, who had suffered a great defeat against the Iranians, will be victorious in a few years.
• “The Byzantines have been defeated, In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome, Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command [i.e., decree] before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice, [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know.”[5]
• The verses were revealed when the Byzantines were defeated by the Persians in 615, and the proof confirming the news in the verse took place when the Byzantine ruler Heraclius defeated the main army of the Sassanids in Nineveh at the end of 627.
• Abu Lahab will die in denial
• “May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, and he ˹himself˺ perish! Neither his wealth nor ˹worldly˺ gains will benefit him. He will burn in a flaming Fire, and ˹so will˺ his wife, the carrier of ˹thorny˺ kindling, around her neck will be a rope of palm-fibre.”
• The person mentioned in that sura is the person whose real name is Abu Utba Abduluza, but who is known by the nickname “Abu Lahab” in the Meccan society and is among the polytheist leaders who are hostile to the Prophet Muhammad(Peace and blessing be upon him). It is stated in the surah that Abu Lahab will go to Hell (he will die without accepting Islam). Indeed, Abu Lahab died about 10 years after the surah was revealed, and during this time he never accepted Islam, even with the sole intention of denying the Qur’an.

In addition to all these, the Qur’an’s offer to humanity is fully comprehensive for the individual and social life, happiness, and security of human beings, and that a single copy of the Qur’an has been preserved throughout the world over more than 1400 years. It reveals the origin of revelation.
